Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Overview

The acute and intermediate care unit provides specialized care for surgical patients undergoing thoracic, cardiac, and vascular procedures. This includes operations such as coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), valve repairs and replacements, aneurysm repairs, lung resections, esophagectomies, heart and lung transplants, limb amputations, femoral popliteal bypasses, and carotid endarterectomies.

Bed Capacity

• 28-bed unit consisting of 22 acute-care beds
• 6 Intermediate Monitoring Unit (IMU) beds

Patient Population

The IMU caters to patients requiring more advanced monitoring than typical acute care but do not need the intensive environment of the ICU. This includes:

• Fresh lobectomies
• Patients receiving thrombolytic therapy
• Post-operative CABG, valve surgery, and lung transplant patients

Shift Information

• Available shifts: 36 or 48 hours per week
• Duration: 13 weeks
• Every other weekend and holiday required
• Flexible time off available, with specific limitations around holidays

Qualifications

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant nursing experience required
• Experience with electronic medical records, specifically Epic, is mandatory
• Must adhere to the float policy as required by the institution
• Virginia nursing license pending is acceptable for submission
