Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor and Delivery

Summary:

The competent Nurse, with experience in a similar clinical setting, practices independently while demonstrating awareness of all relevant aspects of patient care. This role includes providing both routine and complex nursing care and achieving long-range goals effectively. The Nurse is responsible for managing clinical contingencies and making appropriate assignments and delegating tasks to other care providers as necessary.

Responsibilities:

• Meets expectations of nursing competencies, including leadership roles at various levels.
• Utilizes the nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation—to provide comprehensive care for assigned patients.
• Addresses complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in accordance with their practice level.
• Administers medications and treatments according to established protocols, monitoring for side effects and treatment effectiveness.
• Documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided accurately.
• Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and caregivers by identifying issues and resources.

Job Requirements:

Education and Skills

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is preferred.

Experience

• A minimum of 1 year of experience in a related nursing specialty is preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

• Current certification from AWHONN Intermediate or NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) is required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required (AHA only).
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification is required.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is required (AHA only).
• Valid RN License in the state or compact licensure is required.

Position Requirements

• All newly hired experienced RNs must complete New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.
• New hires will be precepted by a designated trained staff member, and initial onboarding requirements will be validated through successful completion of designated competency validations.
• Completion of all annual competency verification requirements is necessary.
