Shift Notes

Shifts are from 5:00 PM to 1:30 AM, totaling 8.5 hours. Weekend coverage is not required unless there are staffing shortages during the week.

Job Description

The Histotechnologist is responsible for preparing thin slices of human, animal, or plant tissue on slides for analysis. Key responsibilities include:

• Examining, fixing, and processing tissue samples to ensure proper preservation.
• Embedding the tissue in paraffin wax for protection and processing.
• Utilizing a microtome or cryostat to cut tissue samples with precision.
• Mounting tissue samples onto slides for inspection.
• Staining or dying samples to highlight abnormalities accurately.
• Identifying factors that impact procedural quality and implementing corrective actions as needed.
• Performing preventative and corrective maintenance on laboratory equipment and instruments.
• Managing laboratory supplies and quality control procedures effectively.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Histotechnologist.
• HT or HTL certification through ASCP is required.
