Job Description
We are seeking a qualified Medical Surgical/Intermediate Care/Telemetry Registered Nurse to join our team. This position involves providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in telemetry and stepdown nursing, with significant exposure to cardiac patients.
Unit Information
- Unit Type: Stepdown
- Beds: 28
- Nurse to Patient Ratios: Average 1:5 during the day and evening shifts; Average 1:5-7 during night shifts.
Common Diagnoses
Patients in this unit typically present with a variety of conditions, including but not limited to:
- Cardiac conditions: pre/post catheterizations, chest pain, NSTEMIs, congestive heart failure (CHF)
- Respiratory issues: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia
- Endocrine disorders: diabetes
- Renal complications: dialysis, altered mental status
- Hematological concerns
- Wound care and overflow strokes
Responsibilities
- Monitor and evaluate patient vital signs and health status.
- Administer medications and manage intravenous (IV) therapy, including titration of drips for insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, diltiazem, and furosemide.
- Provide education and support to patients and their families.
- Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with hospital policies.
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Required Certifications: BLS (AHA), NIHSS.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in telemetry and stepdown nursing.
- Demonstrated experience working with cardiac patients and IV drip management.
- Strong communication, teamwork skills, and a solid work ethic.
Additional Information
Shifts are 12 hours in length with night schedules from 1900 to 0730. Candidates are required to work every other weekend and holiday. The department does not offer self-scheduling, but block scheduling may be accommodated as staffing allows.
Staff will occasionally be required to float to other medical/surgical floors as needed. Orientation includes one 12-hour day off the unit and one 12-hour shift on the unit.
Dress Code
Scrubs of any color are acceptable as long as they are clean and professional.
