Job Summary
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct care to residents under the supervision of the Nursing Unit Charge Nurse. This role is essential in ensuring the comfort, safety, and wellbeing of residents.
Specific Requirements
- Completion of a state-approved CNA training program.
- Current CNA certification in good standing in Massachusetts.
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Able to read, write, and speak English in a legible and understandable manner.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs tasks according to daily written assignments as designated by the Lead CNA.
- Adheres to all nursing care policies and procedures as instructed.
- Reports unusual observations, changes in condition, and any incidents to the nurse.
- Upholds the Resident Rights policy and maintains HIPAA regulations for confidentiality.
- Treats all residents with kindness, dignity, and respect, demonstrating sensitivity to their physical and emotional needs.
- Reports any suspected or observed resident abuse as mandated by law.
- Provides direct care as indicated in each resident’s Care Plan, including assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility, eating, toileting, and range of motion exercises.
- Maintains a safe and tidy environment for residents by caring for their rooms and belongings.
- Answers resident call lights promptly and keeps call bells within reach.
- Ensures that repositioning sheets and other documentation are completed at the end of each shift.
- Observes all safety measures for residents as per care plans, including fall risk assessments and procedures for assisting with mobility.
- Assists in transporting residents within the facility and may accompany them to appointments outside.
- Fosters positive relationships with co-workers, residents, families, and visitors, in alignment with customer service standards.
- Supports and participates in teamwork, cooperation, and maintaining a positive work environment.
- Reports to work as scheduled and follows the Staffing/Scheduling policies, including unit/shift reassignments as necessary.
Additional Responsibilities
- Adheres to all organizational policies and procedures.
- Maintains current CNA certification in good standing, including completing twelve (12) hours of continuing education per year.
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Able to push/pull up to 40 pounds.
- Able to stand for up to six hours daily.
- Able to kneel, walk, bend, and squat to floor level.
- Able to reach heights of up to five feet.
- Able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Able to see and hear, with or without use of prostheses.
- Able to manage physical and mental job stress effectively.
