Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical – Neuro

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Medical Surgical – Neuro to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in MedSurg nursing, specifically with neuro patients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to stroke and neurosurgery patients, as well as those with various neuro diagnoses, including epilepsy and subdural hematomas.
• Manage patient care using telemetry, with an emphasis on dysrhythmia interpretation and management.
• Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure the highest standards of patient care and safety.
• Participate in unit-based training for epilepsy monitoring, contributing to the development of patient care protocols.

Job Details:

• Ratios: 1:6
• Contract Length: 13-26 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour nights
• Schedule: 36- or 48-hour work weeks
• Floating to other MS/Telemetry areas may be required.
• All travelers must be prepared to work every other weekend and may need to make up shifts missed due to call-offs.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience with at least 1 year of direct MedSurg experience.
• Experience as a traveler with a minimum of 2 successful contracts preferred.
• Strong skills in IV starts, telemetry, and dysrhythmia management.
• Certifications: BCLS, NIH, NIHSS; ACLS preferred.

Preferred Skills and Certifications:

• ACLS Certification

Unit Details:

• Daily census: 42 patients
• 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit available, with on-the-job training provided for nurses.
• Utilization of PYXIS and EPIC for medication and patient management.

Orientation and Additional Information:

• Orientation period: 36 hours
• Scrubs: Navy
• Travelers must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty.
• Block scheduling may not always be available.
