Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical – Neuro)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse specializing in Medical Surgical – Neuro to join our team. This role requires a dedicated individual who can provide high-quality care to patients with neurological conditions.

Job Details

• Patient Ratios: 1:6
• Contract Duration: 13-26 weeks
• Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 hours
• Shift: 12-hour nights
• Floating: Required to float to other Med/Surg/Telemetry areas, including COVID care units

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care for stroke patients, neurosurgery patients, and other neurological diagnoses, including epilepsy and subdural hematomas.
• Manage and interpret telemetry readings and dysrhythmias.
• Work every other weekend and be flexible with scheduling needs, including making up missed shifts within the contract period.
• Participate in 36 hours of unit orientation prior to starting.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year of direct Medical Surgical experience.
• Traveler Experience: Must have completed at least 2 successful contracts; first-time travelers will not be accepted.
• Certifications:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred, but not required
• Skills: Proficiency in IV starts, telemetry monitoring, and management of dysrhythmias.
• Additional Requirements: Must pass EKG Testing prior to start.

Unit Details

The unit serves a daily census of 42 patients and primarily focuses on neurological care. It includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), which provides specialized training for nurses in the unit.
