Oncology Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Oncology Registered Nurse to join our team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The oncology unit consists of 29 beds, primarily focusing on acute oncology symptoms, hematology, and end-of-life care.

Job Details

• Shift: Day shift (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Experience Required: 1 year in a related specialty with at least 1 travel assignment
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holidays: Rotate with staff

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care for patients with acute oncology symptoms, including thrombocytopenia and neutropenia.
• Monitor patient vital signs and maintain central telemetry.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement effective care plans.
• Complete floor-specific orientation and training for new hires.
• Be prepared to float to medical acute as needed, though this is rare.

Qualifications

• Certifications Required: BLS (AHA), NIHSS preferred
• Additional Certifications: Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) certification recommended for chemotherapy administration (requires 2 years of experience in specialty)
• Experience: A minimum of 1 year of nursing experience in oncology

Additional Information

• The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5, with occasional adjustments to 1:6.
• Nurse aides are available, usually 3 per day, to assist with patient care duties.
• Scrub color is Caribbean Blue.
• Orientation on the floor lasts for 3 days to ensure familiarity with processes and staff.
• Outpatient oncology patients may finish their treatments on the floor if necessary.
