Emergency Department Nurse

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Emergency Department Nurse to join our dynamic healthcare team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in emergency care and be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care to patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
• Perform initial assessments and triage patients effectively.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Utilize EPIC for patient documentation and management.
• Float to offsite Emergency Departments as needed for patient care.
• Medically clear patients with psychiatric concerns and coordinate appropriate admissions.

Clinical Requirements

• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, and CPI are required.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an emergency department setting.
• Experience working in a Level I or II trauma center is mandatory.
• Familiarity with stroke, STEMI, and trauma protocols.
• Ability to manage patient care without holding psych patients in the ED.
• Must be able to work with security for patient safety and utilize sitters for suicidal patients.

Work Environment

The Emergency Department features 73 rooms and 24 hallways, handling approximately 350 patients daily. The department does not have a separate fast track area; patients are seen in the non-acute side of the ED.

Shift Expectations

• Shifts available from morning times (7 AM, 10 AM, 11 AM).
• Willingness to take on-call shifts as required.
• Flexibility to float to one of the offsite EDs as needed, including locations in Fairfax City and Reston/Herndon.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous travel nursing experience is highly preferred.
