Medical/Surgical Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Medical/Surgical Telemetry Registered Nurse to join our Float Pool. This position requires the ability to float between multiple units within the hospital, providing comprehensive care to diverse patient populations.

Unit Description

The Float Pool RN will rotate throughout various Med/Surg Tele units, ensuring continuity of care and support in high-demand areas. Responsibilities will include monitoring cardiac patients and managing telemetry equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor cardiac rhythm and vital signs of patients, including reading and interpreting telemetry strips.
• Administer cardiac drips as per established protocols.
• Provide care for ED border patients and support in the acute mental health unit.
• Care for non-vented patients who are transfer-ready from the ICU.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of acute care hospital experience.
• Previous experience as a Traveler is preferred.

Skills and Competencies

• Proficiency in telemetry monitoring, including measuring intervals and interpreting strips every 4 hours.
• Experience with TR Band and cardiac drips.
• Ability to manage a clinician-to-patient ratio of up to 6:1 on nights.

Patient Population

The Float Pool RN will cater to a variety of patient populations, focusing on patients from the emergency department and those requiring acute medical interventions.

Bed Count and Census

• Total Bed Count: 371
• Unit Census: Ranges from 8 to 41 beds depending on the unit.

Schedule and Rotation Requirements

This role requires flexibility with a schedule that includes nights and rotating between days and evenings, with up to 3 rotations to night shifts per contract.

Technology and Charting

Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems, particularly EPIC, is required.

Certifications Required

• Active RN license in Massachusetts.
• AHA BLS and ACLS certifications.
