Registered Nurse – Medical / Surgical

Summary:

The competent Nurse in a medical/surgical setting practices independently while demonstrating awareness of all relevant aspects of patient care. This role involves providing routine and complex nursing care, developing long-range goals or plans, and managing various clinical situations effectively. The Registered Nurse will make appropriate assignments and delegate tasks to other care providers to optimize patient outcomes.

Responsibilities:

• Meets expectations of applicable nursing competencies, including leadership roles.
• Provides nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients.
• Addresses complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families according to their level of practice.
• Administers medications and treatments per protocol, monitoring side effects and effectiveness of prescribed treatments.
• Documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided accurately.
• Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and caregivers, identifying issues and resources as needed.

Job Requirements:

Education/Skills

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is preferred.

Experience

• A minimum of 1 year of experience in a related nursing specialty is preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

• BLS certification (AHA only) is required.
• Registered Nurse (RN) License in the state of Texas or compact is required.
