Registered Nurse – Operating Room

Job Description

The Operating Room Registered Nurse will function as an integral member of the patient care team, providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients during surgical procedures. The role involves collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to ensure quality surgical education, advanced technology utilization, and evidence-based care.

Shift Details

• Shift: Day 5×8 hours (11:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend is required

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care to pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients in the operating room.
• Support the surgical team in managing and delivering patient care.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols.
• Participate in trauma procedures, including ENT, colorectal, plastics, neurosurgery, surgical oncology, and more.
• Function as a resource for patients and families regarding surgical procedures and care.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of Operating Room experience is required, with Level II trauma experience preferred.
• First-Timers: Accepted.
• Certifications Required:
  • BLS
  • 16-hour Maryland-approved trauma course
  • 8 hours of annual trauma continuing education units (CEUs)
• Preferred Certifications: ACLS, NIH, and PALS.

Additional Requirements

• Must be proficient in various surgical procedures, including but not limited to trauma, ENT, general surgery, gynecology, and orthopedics.
• Experience with emergency OR response and knowledge of fire safety, malignant hyperthermia, and latex allergy precautions is essential.
• Experience with electrosurgical units and fiber-optic equipment is required.

Time Off and Scheduling

• 14 days or less of requests for time off (RTO) will be auto-approved.
• RTO is not approved during hard-to-fill days such as Easter and Mother’s Day.
• Every other winter and summer holiday are required with no RTO during these periods.

Charting System

The charting system utilized in this position is Cerner/Surginet.
