Post Anesthesia Recovery Nurse
Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Post Anesthesia Recovery Nurse to join our team. This role involves providing exceptional care to patients recovering from various anesthesia types, including General, Regional, and Conscious Sedation, catering to all age ranges and patient types.
Responsibilities
- Provide post-anesthesia recovery care for patients in alignment with safety and quality standards.
- Manage various drains including Cranial, Spinal, Hemovacs, and Chest Tubes.
- Perform airway management, including the use of OAW, NAW, OETT, and extubation procedures.
- Utilize ventilators and perform care for tracheostomy (Trach) and orotracheal intubation (OETT).
- Conduct hemodynamic monitoring and manage patients experiencing malignant hyperthermia.
- Administer post-operative pain, nausea, and blood pressure medications.
- Initiate and maintain medication drips, including Heparin, Sedation, and Pressers.
- Assist in fundal massages and postpartum hemorrhage management, including knowledge of common OB complications.
- Perform bladder irrigation maintenance.
- Conduct post-operative carotid care including neuro assessments, sheath removal, and site monitoring, along with A-line maintenance and removal.
Qualifications
- Experience in Post Anesthesia Recovery nursing with diverse patient types.
- Current certifications: ACLS, PALS, CPR.
- Strong knowledge of medications used during general anesthesia.
- Ability to respond promptly to call-ins and work efficiently in a team-oriented environment.
Surgical Procedures Experience
Experience with the following patient types and surgical procedures is preferred:
- Critical Care: Craniosurgery, Thoracotomies, Trauma cases, ICU holds, Medical/Surgical needs.
- Pediatrics: Tonsils, Adenoids, Ear Tubes, Foreign Body Removal, Hernia Repairs, Dental Restorations.
- OB/GYN: Cesarean Sections, Cerclage, Post-Partum Bleeds, Hysterectomies, Vaginal tacking, D&C.
- Cardiac: Carotid procedures, Vascular stents & bypasses, Pacemakers, Ablations, AAA, EVAR, TEVAR.
- Ortho/Neuro: Joint surgeries, Fractures, Laminectomies, Back/Neck Fusions, Pinnings, Closed/Open reductions.
- General Surgery: Colostomies, Appendectomies, Cholecystectomies, Exploratory Laparotomies, Whipple procedures.
- Urology: Proctectomy, TURPS, ESWL, Cystoscopy, Nephrectomy, Cystectomies.
- Plastic Surgery: Breast reconstructions/implants, Abdominoplasty.
- ENT: Parotid surgery, Tongue/Laryngeal Biopsy, Thyroid surgery.
Schedule & Availability
This position requires a commitment to work three twelve-hour shifts per week and the ability to cover on-call shifts as part of a rotation, including 2-3 weeknight call shifts in a four-week schedule and every fourth weekend.
