L&D Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking skilled and dedicated L&D Registered Nurses to provide high-quality care in a fast-paced, high-risk environment. This position requires a commitment to excellent patient care and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented atmosphere.

Unit Information

• Number of Labor & Delivery Beds: 7
• Number of OR Suites for C-Sections: 2
• Postpartum Beds: 17
• Annual Births: 950-1000

Patient Population & Care

The L&D unit caters to high-risk patients, frequently handling conditions such as:

• Preeclampsia
• HELLP Syndrome
• Placenta Previa
• Preterm Labor (PTL)
• Premature Rupture of Membranes (PROM)

The role involves managing both laboring mothers and their newborns, with responsibilities in both recovery areas.

Key Responsibilities

• Float to maternity/birthing unit and antepartum areas as needed.
• Conduct admissions, preparations, and recovery for mothers and babies.
• Titrate drips as required, including insulin and oxytocin.
• Provide support without specific charge nurse assignments, allowing focus on patient care during deliveries.
• Work with OB techs and coordinate care efforts with anesthesia and neonatal teams.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and follow AWHONN guidelines for ratios.

Requirements

• Active BLS and NRP certifications
• This role requires floating to a patient sitter position throughout the hospital and NICU if trained and comfortable.
• Prior experience in L&D nursing is preferred, particularly in high-risk settings.

Work Environment

The nursing unit has an emphasis on collaboration, with OB providers available 24/7. Communication with the MFM specialist is supported through on-call availability. The unit is equipped for patient monitoring and employs a Corometric EFM – Cerner/Fetalink system.

Additional Information

Orientation includes three days—one for hospital specifics and two for unit-specific training.

All nursing staff are required to wear provided purple scrubs while on duty.

Schedule Requirements

• Weekend commitment: Every third weekend, with options for block scheduling.
• Holiday responsibilities as needed.
