Registered Nurse (RN) – Neuro PCU

Position Overview

The Registered Nurse in the Neuro Progressive Care Unit (PCU) provides specialized care for adult patients with neurological conditions. This role involves monitoring patient health, responding to emergencies, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Scheduling Details

• Shift Hours: 3x12s, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 shifts in a 6-week scheduling block
• Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract

Charting and Documentation

Experience with EPIC charting is required for this position.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
• Medication administration and management of cardiac drips (no titration required)
• Providing respiratory support, including nasal cannula and oxygen administration
• Participating in rapid response and adhering to isolation precautions

Patient Care Environment

The nurse will care for adult patients with neurological issues, participate in neurosurgical recovery, and manage stroke patients. The unit features dedicated beds for continuous 24-hour epilepsy monitoring.

Qualifications

• Certifications: Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications are required
• Patient Ratios: Comfortable working with a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:4-5
• Floating Requirements: May be required to float to units within the clinical skillset
• Licensure: Candidate must possess a valid single-state license from a non-compact state or an active license from a compact state

This position is within a 703-bed acute care teaching hospital, recognized for its advanced specialty care and as a Level I Trauma Center. The facility is dedicated to providing comprehensive neurological care, including advanced stroke treatment and interventions.
