Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical

Shift Information

This position is for a Day Shift role with 3 twelve-hour shifts (07:00 – 19:00) each week. Weekend shifts are required every other week.

Certifications Required

• BLS (AHA)

Unit Information

The position involves working in a Float Pool that covers various units, including Medical/Oncology, two surgical units, and two medical units. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 6:1, with total patient care responsibilities and no patient care assistants (PCAs) available.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients with diverse medical conditions including surgical services (colorectal, hepatobiliary, bariatric, general, orthopedic) as well as medical diagnoses such as diabetes, heart disease, COPD, kidney issues, and gastrointestinal conditions.
• Work collaboratively with healthcare professionals across the Float Pool.
• Communicate effectively with patients and their families.
• Participate in unit orientation programs; three shifts of unit-specific orientation are provided.

Qualifications

• Current and relevant experience in medical/surgical nursing is required.
• Experience in a large hospital setting is preferred.
• Newly licensed nurses or first-time travelers are not eligible for this role.

Additional Information

• There is no requirement for RNs to titrate drips; respiratory therapists are available for assistance when needed.
• Remote telemonitoring is utilized, and RN responsibilities do not include reading their own strips.
• Self-scheduling is not available; staffing assignments are made based on patient care needs.
• Holiday shifts are not required.
• Floating to any Medical/Surgical pod will be expected.
• Dress code requires navy scrubs, which are not provided.
