Medical Technologist

About the Position

The Medical Technologist position requires expertise in microbiology and is vital for supporting high-quality laboratory testing within a clinical setting. The individual will be responsible for preparing specimens, performing routine and specialized laboratory tests, conducting quality control procedures, and troubleshooting laboratory instruments and computer data issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyze specimens for testing.
• Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests.
• Implement quality control measures and troubleshoot errors.
• Conduct Gram stain readings, including plating and rapid molecular testing.
• Maintain laboratory instruments and perform preventative maintenance.
• Train and mentor new laboratory personnel in established procedures.
• Participate in continuing education programs to enhance professional knowledge.
• Communicate technical information to both medical and non-medical personnel.
• Recognize and evaluate normal and abnormal laboratory values.

Shift Details

This position operates on a day shift schedule, requiring five 8-hour shifts per week from 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM, with rotating weekends and holiday responsibilities currently set at every third weekend, subject to change.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or a relevant medical/scientific discipline.
• Certification: ASCP BOC certification as a Medical Technologist or an equivalent specialty lab certification.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in a laboratory setting is preferred, with a background in microbiology and Beaker software.
• Skills: Proficiency in culture reading, identification, susceptibility testing, and rapid PCR setup (such as BioFire Torch panels and Cepheid assays) is highly advantageous.

Miscellaneous

The Medical Technologist will not be required to float between service lines, focusing strictly on microbiology. Additionally, the facility allows for cancellations of up to one shift every two weeks.
