Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical – Neuro

Job Details

This position entails caring primarily for stroke patients, while also catering to neurosurgery patients and various neuro diagnoses such as epilepsy and traumatic/non-traumatic subdural hematomas.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide care and support to patients in a medical-surgical setting.
• Monitor and manage patient conditions, including telemetry and dysrhythmias.
• Participate in floating to other medical surgical and telemetry areas, which may include COVID care units.
• Ensure timely completion of scheduled shifts, including every other weekend.
• Make up for any missed shifts due to call-offs or additional requests for time off, which may include extending the contract.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience with at least 1 year of direct experience in a medical-surgical setting.
• Traveler Experience: Candidates must have completed at least 2 successful travel contracts.
• Skills: Proficient in IV start, telemetry, interpretation, and management of dysrhythmias, along with specific experience in medical-surgical neuro care.
• Certifications: BCLS, NIH, NIHSS required; ACLS preferred but not mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications

• ACLS certification is preferred.

Unit and Shift Details

• Ratio: 1:6 patient-to-nurse ratio.
• Available shift: 12-hour days (06:45 – 19:15).
• 36 or 48 hours per week can be offered, with contracts available for 20 or more weeks until February 27, 2027.
• Unit Orientation: 36 hours of orientation provided.

Additional Information

• Scrubs are navy in color.
• Frequent floating may be necessary within the unit and to other areas.
• Must pass EKG testing prior to starting.
