Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical – Neuro

Job Overview

We are currently seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Medical Surgical – Neuro team. This position requires a strong background in Med/Surg nursing, with a focus on caring for patients with neurological conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care primarily for stroke patients and those with various neurological diagnoses.
• Administer medication and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
• Monitor patient conditions and interpret telemetry data, including the management of dysrhythmias.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver optimal patient care.
• Float to other Medical Surgical/Telemetry areas as needed.
• Participate in unit orientation and training programs, particularly for Epilepsy Monitoring Unit procedures.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year of direct MedSurg experience.
• Traveler Experience: Must have completed at least 2 successful contracts prior to applying; first-time travelers will not be accepted.
• Local Candidates: Locals are accepted.
• Certifications: Required certifications include BCLS, NIH, and NIHSS. ACLS certification is preferred but not required.

Work Schedule & Expectations

• Shifts: 12-hour day shifts, working every other weekend.
• Required to make up any called-off shifts during the same week or at the end of the contract.
• Floating to other units may be necessary, including COVID care units.
• If requesting time off, including weekends, that time will be added to the end of the contract period.

Unit Details

• Patient Ratios: 1:6.
• Daily Census: Approximately 42 patients.
• Unit includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU).
• Utilizes healthcare systems such as PYXIS and EPIC for medication management and electronic health records.

Additional Information

All candidates must successfully pass EKG testing prior to starting this specialty nursing role. Flexible scheduling options may vary based on unit needs.
