Registered Nurse (RN) – Med/Surg Telemetry

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse specializing in Med/Surg Telemetry to join our dedicated healthcare team. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive care primarily focusing on stroke patients and other neuro diagnoses.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications and manage IV therapy
• Perform telemetry monitoring and interpret dysrhythmias
• Care for neuroscience patients, including those with epilepsy and subdural hematomas
• Participate in the management and care of neurosurgery patients
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes
• Float to other Med/Surg/Telemetry areas as needed

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience
• 2 successful travel contracts required; first-time travelers will not be accepted
• Local candidates are welcomed
• Current certifications: BCLS, NIH, and NIHSS; ACLS preferred
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Shift and Scheduling

• Shift: 12-hour days, full-time
• Required to work every other weekend
• RTO not permitted after booking and cannot be worked out onsite
• Call-offs may result in cancellation and DNR
• Mandatory make-up shifts for any missed scheduled weekend shifts

Patient Care Details

The unit focuses primarily on stroke patients and also accommodates various neuro conditions. Our specified area includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, and daily census typically reaches 42 patients.

Systems Used

Experience with PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR systems is advantageous.

Scrubs

Navy scrubs are required while on duty.

Orientation

All new hires will undergo a 36-hour orientation to acclimate to the unit processes and expectations.

Important Notes

• Floating between units may include assignments in COVID care units.
• Block scheduling is not guaranteed for all shifts.
• Experience in Med/Surg is a non-negotiable requirement.
