Clinical Nurse
Job Summary
Provide competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care by utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.
Essential Duties
Education
- Participate in identifying and meeting personal learning needs.
- Attend educational programs based on identified learning needs.
- Utilize patient education materials relevant to the patient population with assistance.
- Assess the readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers.
- Evaluate the developmental level of patients and factors affecting their ability to learn.
Evaluation of Care
- Identify expected patient outcomes.
- Seek guidance as needed for revision of the plan of care.
- Participate in discussions with interdisciplinary team members to evaluate patient care.
- Communicate relevant information to promote continuity of care.
Implementation
- Demonstrate competence in the care of patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care.
- Perform bedside point-of-care testing as required by the patient care plan.
- Utilize healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in delivery of care.
- Organize and prioritize care according to patient and family needs.
- Consult with appropriate resources regarding patients with complex care issues in a timely manner.
Leadership
- Develop goals to promote professional growth or minimize limitations with assistance.
- Achieve goals and objectives within the defined time frame or renegotiate with a supervisor.
- Facilitate intra/interdepartmental collaboration.
- Participate in the development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities.
- Effectively utilize communication systems.
- Participate in promoting cost-effective care.
- Provide feedback to co-workers.
- Stay informed about public policy and regulatory guidelines that impact the healthcare environment.
- Promote a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment for all.
Patient Assessment
- Recognize data from complex situations to determine care priorities.
- Include appropriate physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs in assessments.
- Synthesize assessment data into meaningful information before communicating it to others.
- Assess and anticipate the discharge needs of individual patients and families.
- Develop relationships with families to empower them in advocating for both the patient and their own needs.
Planning
- Collaborate with patients and families to prepare or update care plans.
- Utilize available multidisciplinary resources in planning care.
- Use a full range of communication methods to convey planning effectively.
- Identify and address cultural and ethnic issues in patient care planning.
- Demonstrate the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
Research
- Read journals containing studies or articles applicable to practice.
- Bring ideas and questions to the staff for assessment of applicability.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience.
- Two (2) or more years of MedSurg/Telemetry experience.
- Previous neuro experience is required.
- Remote Tele experience is highly preferred.
Education
- Required: Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited school of Nursing.
- Preferred: BSN or MSN from an accredited school of Nursing.
Certifications & Licensure
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification (AHA or ARC) required.
