Job Overview
The NICU Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing specialized respiratory care to critically ill newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This role entails assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients with various respiratory conditions in a fast-paced environment, ensuring the highest standards of care and patient safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients’ respiratory status and needs.
- Administer respiratory therapies and interventions in accordance with established guidelines.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans for neonates.
- Monitor and evaluate patients’ responses to treatment, making adjustments as necessary.
- Perform diagnostic procedures and interpret results to guide clinical decisions.
- Educate patients’ families on respiratory care techniques and equipment as needed.
- Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards within the NICU environment.
Qualifications
- Current Certification as a Respiratory Therapist.
- Recognition in Neonatal/Pediatric Respiratory Care is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of neonatal respiratory conditions and therapies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations.
- Experience in a NICU setting is highly desirable.
Working Conditions
The position may require working irregular hours, including nights and weekends, to ensure continuous patient care. Comfort working in an intensive care environment and managing the unique challenges presented by critically ill newborns is essential.
