Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

Job Description Summary

The scope of work for a Respiratory Therapist includes assessment, therapeutic intervention, and education for patients with cardiopulmonary disorders or associated complications.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct respiratory therapy assessments and protocols.
• Perform arterial punctures and blood gas analysis.
• Manage ventilator and non-invasive ventilation (NIV) therapy.
• Administer medication delivery and airway clearance techniques.
• Assist with intubations, tracheostomy changes and decannulation, and extubations.
• Participate in emergency response teams and ICU rounds.
• Facilitate patient intrahospital transport and manage high-risk deliveries.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent respiratory therapist experience.
• Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credentials via NBRC.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, NRP, and PALS are required.
• Experience in Level 4 NICU, including high-frequency ventilation and management of high-risk deliveries.
• Ability to provide care for a range of patient populations, including NICU and PICU, as well as adult patients.
• Must possess a North Dakota state license or be willing to apply within 72 hours of acceptance of an offer.

Shift Requirements

The position involves rotating shifts, including day and night schedules, with every other weekend and rotating holidays. Candidates may also have the option to work straight night shifts or weekends. Each shift is supported by a team, ensuring no lone worker scenarios.

Training and Orientation

Successful candidates will complete a lab orientation with respiratory therapy education staff, followed by preceptor shifts with unit respiratory therapists.

All clinicians must use badges for facility access. Proper attire includes steel gray scrub color for Pediatric/PICU areas or blue hospital-provided scrubs for NICU.
