Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

Job Summary

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is responsible for the assessment, therapeutic intervention, and education of patients with cardiopulmonary disorders or associated complications. This role involves specialized care within the NICU and PICU units, providing critical respiratory support for patients of varying ages and medical conditions.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct respiratory therapy assessments and develop individualized care plans.
• Administer ventilator and non-invasive ventilation therapy.
• Manage medication delivery and airway clearance protocols.
• Assist with intubations, tracheostomy changes, decannulations, and extubations.
• Participate in emergency response teams and ICU rounds.
• Transport patients safely within the facility.
• Handle high-risk deliveries, specifically in the NICU.
• Utilize advanced equipment such as Hamilton G5, V60, and High-Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation (HFOV) systems.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of recent respiratory therapy experience in NICU and/or PICU settings.
• Current BLS (AHA), NRP, and PALS (AHA) certifications are required; ACLS is preferred.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification via NBRC is mandatory, with Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) considered.
• Experience with high-frequency ventilation, nitric oxide therapy, and management of micro preemies.
• Must possess or be willing to obtain a North Dakota state license within 72 hours of acceptance of the job offer.
• Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with the healthcare team.

Work Environment

The position includes rotating shifts with a schedule of every other weekend and rotating holidays. The respiratory therapist will work as part of a team, including collaboration with charge personnel and other respiratory therapists. Opportunities for additional shifts may be available.

• Epic documentation systems
• Omnicell medication cabinets
• Various ventilators including Hamilton G5 & C1 and Trilogy
• High-flow nasal cannula setups and CPAP equipment
• Mobile technology for patient management and communication

Training and Orientation

New hires will complete a comprehensive orientation program that includes practical training with seasoned respiratory therapists and laboratory education sessions to ensure proficiency in all necessary procedures and protocols.
