Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor and Delivery

Job Overview

This position involves working in a fast-paced and challenging labor and delivery unit, handling a high volume of obstetric patients. The unit currently averages over 300 births per month, with daily double labor assignments being the norm. Candidates are expected to demonstrate proficiency and experience in a high-acuity setting, providing care for patients in labor and conducting immediate newborn care.

Contract Details

  • Contracts available for 20+ weeks, valid until February 27, 2027.
  • Shift: Night shifts (12 hours), from 18:45 to 07:15.
  • Maximum Requested Time Off (RTO): 7 days allowable for auto-offer.
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, with a minimum of 6 shifts per 6-week schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain patient ratios of 2:1, with an average of 20 births and 30-40 admissions in a 24-hour period.
  • Provide comprehensive care for obstetrical patients, including both intrapartum and high-risk antepartum and postpartum patients.
  • Utilize obstetrical triage for screening and performing outpatient procedures.
  • Assist in scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births and other specialized procedures.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in labor and delivery nursing; 3 years preferred.
  • Experienced travelers welcome, although experience in high-volume settings is essential.
  • Required skills: Circulating, conducting sterile vaginal exams, and proficient in immediate newborn care.
  • Certifications: BCLS, AWHONN Intermediate, and NRP.

Unit Information

The unit operates under a fast-paced and high-acuity environment, making it necessary for nurses to adapt quickly and efficiently. Strong preference is given to candidates who have experience in circulating to an Operating Room (OR) setting.

Orientation

A comprehensive unit orientation of 24 hours will be provided to ensure preparedness in this demanding work environment.

Additional Information

Scrubs will be provided in a standard blue color.
