Oncology Registered Nurse (RN)
An exciting opportunity awaits for a skilled Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) to join a dedicated medical-surgical team. This position involves providing high-quality patient care in an oncology unit, with a focus on both inpatient and outpatient services. Below are the details regarding the shift, requirements, and responsibilities:
Shift Details
- Shift: Nights
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week
- Schedule: 7 pm – 7 am, with every other weekend required
Unit Information
- Unit Type: Oncology (7th floor and outpatient; travelers will only work on the floor)
- Number of Beds: 29
- Staffing Ratios: 1:5; on occasion, 1:6
- Nurse Aides: Yes, generally 3 per day
- Charge Nurse: Charge Nurse available from staffing grid unless unusual circumstances arise
- Floating: Rarely, to medical acute
- Orientation: 3 days specific to the floor
Patient Care Responsibilities
The Oncology Registered Nurse will be responsible for:
- Providing compassionate care to patients with acute oncology symptoms, including thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, and sickle cell crisis.
- Administering treatments and medications as required, with an emphasis on end-of-life care and hematology patients.
- Utilizing Meditech electronic medical records for documenting patient care.
- Collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure the best patient outcomes.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience in oncology nursing, with at least 1 travel assignment completed.
- Required Certifications:
- BLS (AHA)
- NIHSS (preferred)
- ONS certification is required for those administering chemotherapy, with 2 years of experience necessary in this specialty.

- Common diagnoses include acute oncology symptoms and medical overflow.
- Weekend shifts and holiday rotations are part of the scheduling requirements.
