Registered Nurse (RN) – Neuro Intermediate Care Unit

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Neuro Intermediate Care Unit. The ideal candidate should be able to provide high-quality patient care and support to a diverse patient population with neurological and medical conditions.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required.
• Neuro experience is strongly preferred; candidates with limited neuro experience should be screened and noted.
• Experience with Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown, and Telemetry is required.
• Previous travel nurse experience is preferred; first-time travelers will not be accepted.
• EPIC experience is required.
• Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS.

Essential Skills

• Ability to titrate LEVO.
• Proficient in cardiac monitoring, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
• Experience with IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips.
• Knowledge of feeding tube management and continuous bladder irrigation (CBI).
• Competent in IV therapy, blood product administration, and central line management.
• Understanding of neurological conditions including aneurysms, CVAs, and seizure disorders.
• Skilled in respiratory support including BiPAP/CPAP management and care of ventilated patients.
• Knowledgeable in isolation precautions and wound care.

Work Environment

Our Neuro Intermediate Care Unit specializes in the care of patients requiring neurological interventions alongside medical intermediate care. The average nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4, with a maximum daily census of 24 patients.

Shift Details

• 12-hour night shifts from 18:45 to 07:15.
• Weekend requirement of a minimum of 3 shifts every six weeks.

Orientation and Training

Orientation will consist of 32 hours, including an 8-hour computer class followed by on-unit training with experienced staff.

Professional Expectations

We emphasize a teamwork approach and expect adherence to behavior standards during all interactions with patients and colleagues. Compliance with the call-off policy will be strictly enforced.

Preferred Skills and Certifications

• IV therapy skills including accessing and managing ports.
• Experience with triage, ICP, conscious sedation, and charge nurse responsibilities.
• Additional certifications such as CCRN, TNCC, and CPI are beneficial.
