Inpatient Pharmacist

Currently seeking a qualified Inpatient Pharmacist to join our pharmacy department. This role is crucial in ensuring safe, effective, and cost-efficient drug therapy while providing optimal patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and assess all prescriptions for appropriateness of therapy, legality, completeness, adverse effects, and interactions.
• Provide clinical consultations and address any inquiries with prescribers before dispensing medications.
• Document all clinical activities and interventions accurately, ensuring compliance with established protocols.
• Verify finished prescription orders in a timely manner while maintaining required records.
• Advise patients on their medications, ensuring clear communication regarding usage and expected outcomes.
• Conduct medication therapy management and chart reviews for prescription refills.
• Direct pharmacy support personnel and serve as a role model and educator for pharmacy students and technicians.
• Participate in clinical and administrative tasks, including quality control and improvement initiatives.
• Engage in health promotion and disease prevention activities related to drug use and preventative therapies.

Qualifications

• Pharm.D. degree and licensure as a registered pharmacist.
• An unrestricted license to practice as a registered pharmacist in the state of Alaska.
• Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
• Completion of a nationally recognized pharmacy residency program is preferred.
• For candidates licensed before 2003, a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree along with three years of experience in hospital or ambulatory clinic pharmacy will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Proficient understanding of pharmaceutical sciences and in-depth knowledge of patients’ medical histories, medications, and lab results.
• Understanding of state and federal laws governing pharmacy practices.
• Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with patients and staff.
• Strong mathematical skills for accurate drug dosage calculations and compounding formulations.
• Ability to work collaboratively with health system and pharmacy staff while exercising professional judgment.
• Effectively manage frequent interruptions and adapt to changing workloads and schedules.
• Demonstrate independent decision-making, prioritize tasks, and respond promptly to urgent requests.

Work Schedule

This position requires participation in a 4×10 schedule, with potential coverage for weekends and holidays.
