Registered Nurse (RN) – Neuro PCU

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse for our Neuro Progressive Care Unit (PCU). The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care to adults with neurological conditions, including neurosurgical recovery and stroke management.

Scheduling Details

• Shift: 3×12 hours, 06:45 AM – 07:15 PM
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (may vary) or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
• Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
• All scheduling requests must be submitted with application

Charting and Call Off Policy

• Charting: Experience with EPIC is required
• Call Off Policy: Facility may call off one shift every two weeks

Qualifications

• Licensure: Must hold an active Virginia State or Compact RN/LPN license, or a pending license if holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
• Certifications:
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Clinical Skills Required

• Cardiac monitoring and emergency response (dysrhythmia interpretation/management, Rapid Response/Code teams)
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central/peripheral line care
• Medication administration and management of cardiac drips (non-titration)
• Respiratory support (including nasal cannula and non-invasive airway management)
• Knowledge of isolation precautions
• Ability to participate in Rapid Response situations

Patient Care and Unit Details

• Patient-to-nurse ratios: 1:4–5 (comfort with a 1:5 ratio is essential)
• Patient population: Adults with neurological conditions
• Unit includes dedicated beds for continuous 24-hour epilepsy monitoring
• Care includes management of neurosurgical recovery, stroke care, and neuro-specific diagnoses, as well as medical overflow
• Floating: Candidates may be required to float to other units within their clinical skillset

This position is located in a 703-bed acute care teaching facility that serves as a regional Level I Trauma Center and is recognized for nursing excellence. The facility provides advanced specialty care, including comprehensive stroke care with 24/7 neurointerventional coverage and advanced endovascular procedures.
