Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Department

Shift Information

Evening shift – 12 hours (10:45 PM – 11:15 PM and/or 2:45 PM – 3:15 AM)

Certifications/Requirements

• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• Basic Life Support (BLS/BCLS)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Valid National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Position Summary

This role involves providing professional nursing care in accordance with the standards of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA). Responsibilities include assessing patient needs, developing and implementing care plans, and evaluating patient outcomes for individuals across the neonate to geriatric age spectrum. The role may include scheduled assignments based on community events influencing emergency department patient volumes.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

• Triages every patient entering the emergency care system, determining priorities based on physical, psycho-social needs, and patient flow factors.
• Conducts hourly rounding in the department and half-hour rounding in the waiting area for patients.
• Documents thorough nursing history, including chief complaint and health status.
• Develops and implements an ongoing plan of care based on continuous assessments, ensuring that all supplies and equipment are readily available and in working order.
• Updates the care plan to meet the evolving needs of patients and their families.
• Manages emergencies and complications following established policies and ENA standards, while recognizing changes in patient health status.
• Documents patient responses to interventions to facilitate effective medical care.
• Provides health education to patients and families, ensuring understanding of treatment before initiation.
• Facilitates communication of patients’ health statuses and referral information to families.
• Documents patient/family understanding of discharge teaching materials provided.
