Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg/Telemetry

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse with a focus on MedSurg and Telemetry. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in managing neurological patients, particularly stroke and neurosurgery patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a MedSurg/Telemetry unit.
• Manage and monitor patients experiencing various neurological conditions.
• Perform essential nursing duties including IV starts and telemetry monitoring.
• Interpret dysrhythmias and manage associated conditions.
• Float to other MedSurg/Telemetry areas as needed, including COVID care units.
• Participate in the unit’s orientation and training programs.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience including at least 1 year of direct MedSurg experience.
• Traveler Experience: Candidates must have completed at least 2 successful travel contracts; first-time travelers will not be accepted.
• Required Certifications: BCLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS). ACLS certification is preferred but not mandatory.
• Preferred Skills: Experience in interpreting and managing dysrhythmias; familiarity with Med/Surg neuro patients.

Shift Information

• Schedule: 12-hour day shifts
• Ratio: 1:6
• Travelers are required to work every other weekend.
• Orientation: 36 hours of unit orientation is provided.

Unit Details

This unit primarily cares for stroke patients and also accommodates neurosurgery patients, as well as other neurological diagnoses. The unit features a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) and has a daily census of approximately 42. There are a total of 43 rooms/beds available.

• RTO (Requests for Time Off) after booking is not permitted.
• Frequent floating may be required based on unit needs.
• Scrubs are to be navy in color.
• Travelers must complete EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty.
