Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Position Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for providing quality nursing care to all patients while serving as an integral member of the nursing staff. The LPN will deliver compassionate care respecting patient rights and dignity across various patient demographics from birth to elderly. Duties may vary depending on assigned areas and may include collaboration with Health Aides for room preparations and medical supply management.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide quality nursing care while adhering to the scope of practice.
• Assist in ordering medical supplies as necessary.
• Screen phone calls and provide assistance to mid-level providers after hours when requested.
• Apply age-specific considerations and cultural sensitivity in patient care delivery.
• Ensure compliance with health regulations and organizational policies.

Position Qualifications

• Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited LPN or LVN program.
• Licensure: Must hold an active LPN license in the State of Alaska in good standing.
• Experience: A minimum of two years of experience is required; new graduates are encouraged to apply, with preference given to candidates with at least one year of hospital experience.
• Certifications:
  • Current CPR certification (BLS) is required.
  • Relevant nursing certifications (e.g., CPI, ENPC, TNCC, AWHONN) are preferred.

Skills and Knowledge

• Proficient knowledge of medical terminology.
• Ability to function effectively in a patient care setting, including familiarity with psychiatric patients.
• Familiarity with medical equipment and office machines (e.g., thermometers, computers).

Additional Information

Holiday coverage may be required. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain competencies for this position, including IV certification and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification as applicable.
