Neuro ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Neuro ICU Registered Nurse to provide exceptional care in a specialized unit dedicated to comprehensive stroke management.

Required Skills and Certifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Neuro ICU required.
• First-time travelers will not be accepted.
• Strong neuro experience is essential; focus on acute stroke patients is preferred.
• Certifications: ACLS, BCLS, NIH.
• Experience with the following skills is mandatory:
  • Vents
  • IV Start
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line care and management
  • Continuous IV sedation
  • CVA and acute stroke management
  • External ventricular drains (EVD)
  • ICP monitoring
  • Post-neurosurgery management
  • Care of ventilated patients
  • Isolation precautions and use of PPE
  • Experience with lumbar drains

Preferred Skills

• Arterial line management experience is preferred.

Shift Information

• Type: 36 hours per week available
• Shifts: 12-hour night shifts from 18:45 to 07:15
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Call Requirement: None
• Float Requirement: Yes, as needed

Patient Population

This unit specializes in the care of patients with various neurological conditions, focusing on strokes (ischemic and hemorrhagic), subdural hematomas, craniotomies, carotid procedures, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, and myasthenia gravis.

Special Equipment

• External ventricular drains (EVD)
• Lumbar drains
• Camino for ICP monitoring
• LICOX for brain tissue oxygenation monitoring
• NICOM
• Arctic Sun for temperature management

Unit Systems

The unit utilizes Pyxis for medication management and EPIC for electronic medical records. Communication is supported by the SBAR format.

Orientation

Orientation for new hires is 24 hours, typically conducted over two days or two nights.

Scrubs

Scrubs are navy blue and white.

Interview Process

Interested candidates are encouraged to provide their interview availability within the next 72 hours for timely consideration. A manager will conduct interviews before any offers are made.

Additional Notes

Candidates must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty. A strong background in neuro-critical care is essential, and applicants must possess the required experience to be considered.
