Respiratory Therapist – NICU

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist specializing in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to join our dedicated team. The ideal candidate will ensure high-quality respiratory care for our patients while floating between Adult and NICU units, if qualified.

Shift and Scheduling

• Shift: Night 3×12 Hours (18:30 – 07:00)
• Work schedule includes 3 shifts per week
• Every other weekend coverage required
• Holiday coverage is expected

Key Responsibilities

• Perform airway management and suctioning procedures, including:
  • Endotracheal tube placement and suctioning
  • Extubation, nasal airway placement, and suctioning
  • Oropharyngeal suctioning
  • Tracheostomy care and suctioning
• Conduct pulmonary hygiene and collect sputum specimens
• Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and provide appropriate respiratory care
• Utilize various therapies and medications, including:
  • Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, and inhaled steroids
  • BiPAP and CPAP administrating
  • Assist in high-risk deliveries and umbilical blood gas sampling
• Troubleshoot high-pressure alarms and assist in weaning from mechanical ventilation

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist in Adult Critical Care and NICU
• Completion of at least 1 prior travel assignment
• Valid BLS and CRT certifications
• Current state licensure in Maryland
• ED experience is preferred
• ACLS certification is preferred

Special Equipment Familiarity

• Draeger V500 and Servo U ventilators

Charting and Compliance

Familiarity with Cerner charting is required.

Additional Skills

Candidates should be comfortable with the following:

• Drawing and analyzing ABGs
• Setting up aerosol therapies and understanding inhalation medications
• Preferred skills include bronchoscopy and knowledge of advanced respiratory medications

Scrubs are not provided; the required scrub color is ceil blue.
