Registered Nurse (RN) – MS/Telemetry

Job Description

We are seeking a qualified Registered Nurse specializing in Medical/Surgical and Telemetry. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience and is open to first-time travelers. Local candidates are also encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients with various diagnoses, including dementia, diabetes, COVID-19, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, and hip fractures.
• Utilize telemetry for remote monitoring and management of dysrhythmias.
• Perform critical procedures such as IV insulin protocols, colostomy care, feeding tube management, and pre/post hemodialysis management.
• Administer blood products and conduct central line blood draws.
• Manage peripheral line care, phlebotomy, and PICC line management.
• Insert and manage IVs, administer heparin and PCA, and care for chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, and high flow nasal cannulas.
• Implement isolation precautions and provide wound care management.
• Collaborate with the Rapid Response Team as needed.

Required Skills and Certifications

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience.
• Experience in Medical/Surgical and Telemetry nursing.
• Current BCLS certification.
• Ability to interpret dysrhythmias.
• Experience in blood product administration and central line management.

Preferred Skills and Certifications

• MS/Telemetry experience with unit monitoring.
• Management of dysrhythmias and accessing ports.
• Experience with insulin management, CVA, and surgical drains.
• Ability to interpret ABGs and tracheostomy management.
• Familiarity with EPIC electronic health records.

Shift Details

• Target patient-to-nurse ratios: 1:5-6
• Shifts: 12-hour days; 36 or 48 hours accepted.
• Contracts available for 13-26 weeks.
• Contract staff may be required to participate in designated Storm or Hurricane Teams and must be available during catastrophic events or mass casualties.
• Floating to other units may be required.
• Weekend shifts: 12-16 required per contract.

Orientation and Scrubs

• 24 hours of unit orientation; full availability during the first week is mandatory for hospital orientation sessions.
• Scrubs will be navy and white.

Additional Information

Travelers must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty. Scheduling will be based on unit needs.
