Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA)

Under the supervision of a Physical Therapist, the Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) plays a vital role in the rehabilitation process for patients requiring physical therapy services. The PTA utilizes various physical treatment procedures to help improve patient mobility and alleviate pain and disability resulting from injuries or medical conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in delivering physical therapy services to patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Execute treatment plans as outlined by the supervising Physical Therapist.
• Monitor patient progress and report changes or concerns to the supervising therapist.
• Utilize physical treatment procedures effectively to support patient rehabilitation goals.
• Collaborate as a member of an interdisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Education & Training Requirements

• Minimum Associate’s Degree in Physical Therapy Assistant.
• Current New Mexico Physical Therapy Assistant license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to pass the Rehab Department Aquatic Competency test within 90 days of hire, if aquatic therapy will be involved in treatment.

Work Experience Requirements

• Preferred: 1 year of experience as a Physical Therapy Assistant.
