Job Description

Under the guidance of the Registered Nurse, the Surgical Technician is responsible for the care and safety of patients during surgical procedures. This role includes providing technical assistance in the Operating Room and requires knowledge relevant to the ages of the patients served.

Essential Job Functions

• Prepare the surgical room with the nursing staff in a timely and organized manner.
• Practice principles of asepsis and maintain a sterile environment.
• Clean, disinfect, and sterilize all equipment in the Operating Room and Endoscopic Lab.
• Coordinate patient care with the RN Circulator.
• Stock and replace Central Sterile (CS) items and prepare CS inventory sheets.
• Maintain a sterile field during surgical procedures and assist the physician as necessary.
• Handle surgical specimens and compile necessary equipment on the surgical field.
• Document unusual occurrences and other required departmental forms in a timely manner.
• Perform CPR as needed and proficiently use all applicable instruments and equipment.
• Clean and wrap instruments for sterilization.
• Transport patients to and from the Operating Room.
• Monitor surgical equipment, maintenance, and repairs.
• Complete duties as a technical scrub in the Operating Room.
• Prepare the room and equipment for Endoscopy procedures.
• Maintain a cooperative and professional demeanor within the Operating Room.
• Other duties as required.
