Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

This position requires a dedicated Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse to provide high-quality patient care in a dynamic acute care setting. The ideal candidate will have experience managing diverse medical-surgical diagnoses and providing comprehensive nursing care to patients with varying needs.

Unit Information

  • Number of Beds: 29
  • Nurse-Patient Ratios: Days 1:4-5, Nights 1:5-6
  • Common Patient Diagnoses:
    • Orthopedic Trauma (fractures, joint replacements)
    • Vascular (fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomy, heparin drips, wound dressing changes)
    • Urology (TURP, TURBT, continuous bladder irrigation)
    • Neuro-Spine (laminectomy, fusion, back pain)
    • OBGYN Oncology (TAH/OBS)
    • Acute Medical Admissions

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient-centered nursing care, including medication administration, wound care, and patient education.
  • Titrate medications following established protocols, including heparin, nitroglycerin, bivalirudin, Cardizem, and insulin.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure holistic patient care and safety.
  • Utilize telemetry monitoring equipment under the supervision of dedicated telemetry technicians.
  • Complete patient assessments and documentation in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to nursing assistants and support staff during assigned shifts.

Qualifications

  • Active RN license with at least 1-2 years of acute care nursing experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to float to other adult medical-surgical nursing units as needed.

Additional Information

  • Shift Details: RNs will work 12-hour shifts, scheduled as needed.
  • Weekend and Holiday Requirements: Every other weekend and holiday commitment.
  • Orientation: A comprehensive orientation program will include 1 day of computer training and 1-2 days of precepted floor orientation.
  • Dress Code: Professional attire, scrubs in any clean color.
