Job Details

The role involves working in an ICU stepdown environment, requiring strong experience in managing critically ill patients with various complex conditions.

• Target Ratios: 1:3-4
• Contract Length: 13 weeks or longer (through February 27)
• Shift: 12-hour night shifts
• RTO: Maximum of 7 days for Auto Offer
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Floating to sister units as required

Required Skills and Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar unit
• New travelers are accepted
• Strong experience with arterial lines and titrating vasoactive drips
• Experience in PCU, DOU, IMC, stepdown, and telemetry
• Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias
• Familiarity with Rapid Response Teams, IV insulin protocols, and blood product administration
• Expertise in central and peripheral line care/management, including PICC line management
• Knowledge of heparin protocols, CVA management, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), and non-invasive airway management (CPAP/BIPAP, HFNC)
• Experience with tracheostomy management and isolation precautions

Certifications

• ACLS, BCLS, NIH certifications required
• Experience with IV start, telemetry, and conscious sedation

Unit Details

The unit consists of 18 beds with a focus on post-rapid response patients, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, and various post-operative cases including GYN, GU, GI, thoracotomies, neuro, and ortho surgeries.

Special procedures on the unit include:

• Only one pressor drip per patient; multiple drips require transfer to ICU
• Management of Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo drips

Equipment and Systems

• Bedside telemetry monitors with remote backup
• Pyxis and Epic systems for medication and patient management

Dress Code

Navy, white, or a combination of both scrub colors are required.

Additional Notes

Hospital orientation is mandatory during the first week, and the traveler must be available for daily classes. An EKG testing must be passed prior to the start for this specialty.
