CVICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled CVICU Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years of critical care experience. This position requires expertise in cardiac care, focusing on post-operative patients recovering from open heart surgery and other cardiac procedures.

Required Skills and Certifications

• Minimum 2 years of critical care experience.
• No first-time travelers; local candidates accepted at the same rate.
• Must have experience in CVICU or open heart recovery.
• Key skills include:
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • ECMO and IABP management
  • Care of ventilated patients
  • Central line care and management
  • Blood product administration
  • Interpretation of Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs)
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS.

Preferred Skills and Certifications

• Accessing and managing ports.
• Assisting with chest tube insertion and removal.
• BiPAP/CPAP management and high flow nasal cannula (HFNC).
• Ventilator management.

Job Details

• Target nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1 during night shifts, 2:1 on weekends.
• Shifts: Days from 06:45 to 19:15.
• Available contracts: 13 to 26 weeks.
• Float requirements may apply.
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.

Patient Diagnoses and Unit Details

This unit primarily focuses on post open heart recovery, also caring for patients undergoing thoracotomies, esophagogastrectomies, and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacements (TAVR). Additional management includes Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), Impella, and IABP support.

Unit Systems

Documentation and communication are facilitated through SBAR, EPIC, and PYXIS systems.

Scheduling and Orientation

This role utilizes a self-scheduling model. Unit orientation will be confirmed prior to the start date, with a requirement for the traveler to be available for classes during the initial week.

Dress Code

Scrubs in navy or white, or a combination of both, are required for this position.
