CVICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced CVICU Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality patient care in a Post Open Heart Recovery Unit. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in critical care nursing, specifically in cardiovascular surgery recovery and related procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care for patients recovering from open heart surgery and other complex cardiac procedures.
• Manage and interpret dysrhythmias, and oversee the management of various cardiac support devices, including ECMO, IABP, and LVAD/RVAD.
• Administer blood products and manage central lines while ensuring adherence to isolation precautions and PPE protocols.
• Conduct thorough patient monitoring, including vital signs and arterial blood gas interpretation.
• Assist with procedures such as chest tube insertion and removal, and manage ventilated patients.
• Work collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of critical care experience, specifically in CVICU or open heart recovery.
• Experience with complex cardiac procedures such as thoracotomies, esophagogastrectomies, and TAVR.
• No first-time travelers accepted; local candidates are welcome at the same rate.
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS.

Preferred Skills and Certifications

• Experience in accessing and managing ports.
• Capability in titrating vasoactive drips.
• Familiarity with BiPAP/CPAP management and high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) usage.

Shift Details

• Shift hours: Days from 06:45 to 19:15.
• Scheduled for 36 or 48 hours per week, with options for 13-26 week contracts.
• Weekend coverage required every other weekend.
• Float between units may be required.

Unit Details

• Target patient-nurse ratios: 1:1 at night, 2:1 on weekends.
• Processes include CRRT, Impella, and IABP management.
• Utilizes SBAR for communication, and EPIC and PYXIS for documentation and medication management.

Orientation

Unit orientation and hospital orientation will be provided. Availability for classes during the first week is required.

Attire

Required scrubs: Navy, white, or a combination of both.
