Registered Nurse – Interventional Radiology

The Interventional Radiology/Cardiology Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing invasive procedures such as angiography, embolization, cardiac catheterization, and other minimally invasive interventions. This role requires collaboration with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. The RN acts as the patient advocate and is responsible for the direction and supervision of assigned personnel.

Essential Job Functions:

• Nursing/Circulator Role:
  • Administer medications as ordered, including anticoagulants, vasoactive agents, contrast, and emergency drugs.
  • Maintain sterile technique and assist with procedures as needed.
  • Anticipate needs of the interventionalist and recognize complications rapidly, such as arrhythmia and bleeding.
  • Collaborate with the radiologic technologist and physicians regarding contrast allergies and sensitive considerations.
• Moderate Sedation Role:
  • Monitor patients during moderate sedation, ensuring continual assessment at all times.
  • Verify ASA classification and consult anesthesia as necessary.
  • Provide appropriate nursing interventions in case of complications.
• Scrub Role:
  • Function as the scrub technologist, using sterile techniques to assist during procedures.
  • Prepare and organize sterile instruments and procedural trays.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with vascular anatomy and respond swiftly to physician requests.
• Monitor Role:
  • Record hemodynamic data, pressures, and procedural events accurately.
  • Communicate real-time findings to the procedural team, ensuring accurate documentation.
• Support to the Team:
  • Assist with patient preparation, positioning, and connecting monitoring equipment.
  • Verify allergies and relevant clinical factors in collaboration with the clinical team.
  • Conduct patient identification and timeout processes in accordance with institutional policy.
• Department Support:
  • Assist with managing supplies, restocking rooms, and tracking expiration dates.
  • Support room turnover efficiency post-procedure.
  • Ensure devices are cleaned and stored properly.

Qualifications

• Education:
  • Required: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Desired: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Experience:
  • Required: At least one year of experience in critical care, emergency, cath lab, or interventional radiology.
  • Desired: Three or more years of experience in Interventional Radiology or Cath Lab, with conscious sedation training.
• Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations:
  • Current RN license in the State of Oregon.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Certifications specific to areas of clinical specialty preferred.
• Skills:
  • Ability to provide age-specific and culturally sensitive care.
• Other:
  • Bilingual and/or English-Spanish speaking preferred.
  • Able to work effectively with a culturally diverse population.
