Registered Nurse (RN) – Adult Psych

Position Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse specializing in adult psychiatric care. The position involves working with a diverse patient population ranging from ages 18 to 65, addressing various mental health issues.

Unit Description

The role is situated in a 30-bed adult psychiatric unit, focused on treating patients with an array of mental health concerns, including:

• Anxiety
• Depression
• Suicidal ideation
• Schizophrenia
• Bipolar disorder
• Borderline personality disorder
• Dual diagnosis patients

Patients requiring acute medical care are also accommodated, such as those needing IV treatments, CPAP, wound care, or diabetic management.

Responsibilities

• Administering psychotropic medications and monitoring for side effects
• Assuming charge nurse duties as required
• Facilitating admissions and discharges
• Providing care for medically acute patients, including management of IV pumps and diabetic care

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of inpatient adult psychiatric nursing experience
• Proficiency in the use of automatic medication dispensing systems (Omni Cell)
• Competence in administering and monitoring psychotropic medications
• Active Registered Nurse license in Massachusetts
• Current AHA BLS certification

Work Environment

The clinician-to-patient ratio is 1 RN to 7 or 8 patients, promoting effective and personalized care. This position requires flexibility, including rotating shifts for daytime roles while the night positions do not have rotation requirements. Floating to other units may also be necessary.

Charting System

Familiarity with EMR systems, particularly EPIC, is essential for this role.
