Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Overview

The 7CD unit is a 32-bed inpatient Medical-Specialty Unit that provides care to adult medical-surgical patients, as well as those experiencing behavioral disturbances. The unit utilizes private rooms equipped with bathrooms, gait belts, and walkers to ensure safe patient mobility. Nurses are expected to provide care to a diverse range of medical-surgical patients, including some behavioral admissions.

Shift Information

  • 12-hour Day/Night rotating shifts
  • Every other weekend and holiday rotation
  • Nurses may work 3 weeks of days followed by 3 weeks of nights, depending on unit needs

Role Responsibilities

The Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse will:

  • Collaborate with inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
  • Demonstrate competency and practice within the full scope of nursing expertise and knowledge.
  • Utilize appropriate age-related and population-specific standards in their assigned clinical setting.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of recent nursing experience in a large hospital setting (250+ beds)
  • BLS certification required (American Heart Association)
  • Experience in a Level 1 trauma facility
  • Travel experience is preferred, and candidates currently on their first travel assignment will not be considered
  • EPIC electronic medical record experience
  • Willingness to float to all Medical-Surgical units as needed

Patient Care and Unit Environment

The nurse-to-patient ratio on the unit is 5:1 during the day and 6:1 at night. The facility is equipped with:

  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) – Epic
  • Telemetry and Philips monitors
  • Bladder scanners and Acuivein
  • Omnicell for medication management

Additional Information

All clinicians are required to badge in and out of the facility. Dress code for this position includes navy blue scrubs.

Candidates must not reside within a 60-mile radius of the facility. Those living between 60 to 80 miles from the facility may be considered at a local travel rate. Please note that nurse schedules may be adjusted to balance unit staffing needs, and nurses are encouraged to find substitutes for specific days off if necessary.
