Registered Nurse (RN) – Med Surg/PCU/Tele

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Med Surg/PCU/Tele team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in neuro trauma care, with expertise in managing patients with neurological conditions and critical care needs.

Shift Details

• Shift Type: Night
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Schedule: Every other weekend and holiday

Unit Information

The unit specializes in step-down care for patients with:

• Neuro conditions such as strokes, seizures, Guillain-Barré syndrome, and Myasthenia gravis
• Spinal injuries and post-operative care for neuro procedures
• Trauma-related injuries including orthopedic trauma and complications from anticoagulants

Patient Care Responsibilities

As a member of the healthcare team, you will be responsible for:

• Providing high-quality nursing care for a diverse patient population
• Monitoring and titrating drips such as Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, and Insulin
• Administering care using advanced respiratory support equipment including vents and CPAP
• Collaborating with healthcare team members to ensure comprehensive patient care

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years in Med Surg, PCU, or ICU settings
• Certifications: BLS (AHA), NIHSS
• Special Skills: Experience with tracheostomies and ventilators is highly preferred; travelers must be willing to learn
• Ability to: Read and interpret telemetry strips (central monitoring available)

General Information

• Patient Ratios: Days: 1:4-5, Nights: 1:5-6 (dependent on acuity)
• Support Staff: Nurse aides available (1:9 days, 1:12 nights)
• Self-Scheduling: Six weeks in advance
• Floating Requirements: Float to other mixed care units as needed
• Orientation: One shift of general orientation followed by one shift with a preceptor
