Clinical Nurse

A Clinical Nurse provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Essential Duties

  • Education:
    • Participates in identifying and meeting personal learning needs.
    • Attends educational programs based on identified learning needs.
    • Utilizes patient education materials relevant to the patient population with assistance.
    • Assesses the readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers.
    • Evaluates developmental levels and factors affecting patients’ ability to learn.
  • Evaluation of Care:
    • Identifies expected patient outcomes.
    • Seeks guidance for revisions of the plan of care as needed.
    • Engages with the interdisciplinary team for patient care evaluation.
    • Communicates relevant information to ensure continuity of care.
  • Implementation:
    • Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex issues, considering physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects.
    • Performs bedside point of care testing as required for patient care plans.
    • Utilizes healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures.
    • Organizes and prioritizes care based on patient and family needs.
    • Consults appropriate resources regarding patients with complex care issues and high-risk discharge planning.
  • Leadership:
    • Develops goals for professional growth or to address limitations with assistance.
    • Achieves goals within identified time frames, renegotiating with supervisors as necessary.
    • Facilitates intra/interdepartmental collaboration.
    • Participates in the development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities.
    • Effectively utilizes communication systems and promotes cost-effective care.
    • Provides feedback to coworkers and maintains awareness of public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting healthcare.
    • Promotes a safe, clean, and secure environment for all.
  • Patient Assessment:
    • Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for care.
    • Addresses physical, psychosocial, education, and safety needs.
    • Synthesizes assessment data prior to communication with others.
    • Anticipates discharge needs of individual patients and families.
    • Develops relationships with families to empower them as advocates for their needs.
  • Planning:
    • Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update care plans.
    • Utilizes multidisciplinary resources in care planning.
    • Employs a variety of communication methods to convey planning information.
    • Handles cultural and ethnic considerations in patient care planning.
    • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex issues.
  • Research:
    • Reads relevant journals to identify applicable studies or articles for practice enhancement.
    • Presents ideas and questions for group assessment among staff.

Required Skills & Experience

  • One (1) year of nursing experience.
  • Able to circulate for C-sections.
  • Able to triage for OB.

Required Education

  • Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited nursing school.

Preferred Education

  • BSN or MSN from an accredited nursing school.

Required Certifications & Licensure

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
