Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide comprehensive nursing care in a fast-paced Intermediate Intensive Care Unit. Nurses will be responsible for managing the care of patients with medical/surgical, cardiac, renal, bariatric surgical, pulmonary, and trauma-related conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and interpret telemetry data for patients with cardiac conditions.
• Manage dysrhythmias, including administration of appropriate interventions.
• Provide IV starts and peripheral line care/management.
• Perform non-invasive airway management.
• Oversee postoperative care following cardiac catheterizations and vascular surgeries.
• Offer emotional support and education to patients and families.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience is required.
• Experience in telemetry nursing is essential.
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIH.
• Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias.
• Experience in managing patients on IV vasoactive medications.
• Experience with peripheral line management.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

• Charge nurse experience.
• Experience in wound care and wound vac management.
• Certification in NIHSS.

Work Environment and Schedule

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 4:1, with potential floating to a cardiac telemetry unit.
• Average daily census: 24 patients in a 24-bed unit.
• Shifts available: 36 or 48 hours, primarily 12-hour night shifts from 18:45 to 07:15.
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.
• Maximum RTO: 7 days for contract periods, with some floating required to the Med Surg unit with ratios of up to 1:6.

Patient Population

The Intermediate Intensive Care Unit primarily serves adults and geriatric patients who require continuous telemetry monitoring, especially for conditions such as:

• Acutely decompensated heart failure
• New onset heart failure
• Post-interventional cardiac procedures
• Stabilization of patients following cardiac syndromes

Additional Requirements

Nurses must pass EKG testing prior to commencing duties in this specialty unit. A thorough orientation of 36 hours on the unit will be provided to ensure adequate preparation for patient care responsibilities.
