Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor and Delivery

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Labor and Delivery team. This position requires a strong background in Obstetrics and Gynecology nursing, with the ability to provide quality care to mothers and newborns in a dynamic clinical environment.

Facility Overview

Our facility is a Level III Trauma Center with 375 licensed beds, providing comprehensive care to a diverse patient population.

Unit Information

• 9 Labor and Delivery Rooms (LDR)
• 2 OB Operating Rooms (OR)
• 2 OB Post-Anesthesia Care Units (PACU)
• 11 Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) beds
• 4 Pediatric beds
• 20 Mother/Baby unit beds
• 18-bed START unit for Perinatal Addiction
• 3 OB Emergency Department beds (for patients 20 weeks and above)

Patient Care Overview

As a Registered Nurse in this unit, you will care for various patient types, including:

• Patients experiencing hypertension and those requiring magnesium administration
• Women entering labor, including low-risk patients and antepartum care with fetal monitoring
• Postpartum mothers and newborns, ensuring a smooth transition to the mother/baby unit

Patient Ratios

We adhere to AWHONN and NANN guidelines for patient ratios:

• 1:1 for active labor cases
• 1:2 for non-active laboring patients

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in Labor and Delivery nursing
• BLS, NRP, and fetal monitoring certification (AWHONN or equivalent required)
• Strong clinical skills in labor and delivery, including cervical exams, amnio infusion, fetal monitoring, IV therapy, and administration of Pitocin
• Experience with postpartum care for mother and baby, including basic breastfeeding support
• Familiarity with HUGS Security systems and Pyxis medication dispensing

Department Support

Our nursing team is supported by:

• No CNAs on the unit
• Surgery Technicians available Monday through Friday
• Phlebotomy services on-site
• NICU attendance for babies 34 weeks and below, when necessary
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7 for high-risk deliveries
• Hospitalists and OB Groups providing continuous coverage

Technology and Equipment

Our unit utilizes advanced technology, including:

• Electronic Medical Records (EMR): EPIC Stork, GE Centricity
• IV pumps: Alaris
• Medication dispensing: Pyxis

Floating and Orientation

You may be required to float between Labor and Delivery and the Mother/Baby unit, but will only do so in areas where you are competent. Orientation will include a comprehensive overview of the unit and annual competency exams.

Scheduling Information

This position includes rotating weekend shifts and holiday expectations of one major and one minor holiday. Schedule cycles are developed in 3-week increments.
