Registered Nurse (RN) – MS/Tele Float

We are seeking a Registered Nurse to join our team in the ED Holding unit located in the Float Pool. This unit accommodates patients within the Emergency Department who are awaiting inpatient beds. The patient population may include a range of medical and surgical adult diagnoses, including higher acuity cases requiring PCU-level care.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide care for med/surg and telemetry patients, with the expectation to float to ED and MedSurg areas as needed.
• Monitor cardiac telemetry and manage patients experiencing dysrhythmias.
• Administer blood products and manage peripheral, PICC line, and IV care.
• Perform colostomy and feeding tube care, renal failure management, and isolation precautions.
• Utilize non-invasive airway management techniques, including CPAP/BiPAP and High Flow Nasal Cannula.
• Interpret clinical data including ABGs, and provide oral suctioning and oxygen therapy.
• Participate in rapid response teams and manage chest tubes as necessary.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with prior traveler experience preferred.
• Current certifications in BLS and ACLS are required.
• Proficient in managing telemetry patients and interpreting dysrhythmias.
• Experience with advanced care procedures including renal management, blood product administration, and PICC line management.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification in NIHSS.
• Familiarity with IV insulin protocols and hemodialysis management.
• Experience with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, orthopedic trauma, and total joint replacements.
• Wound care experience, including knowledge of wound vac management.

Job Details

• Patient care ratios target 1:6 for MS/Tele and 1:4 for PCU-level patients.
• Full-time night shifts available (36 or 48 hours per week).
• Required to work every other weekend.
• RTO (Request Time Off) is limited to a maximum of 7 days.
• Staff will be part of a Storm Team and may be required to work during emergencies or disasters.

Unit Information

This is an inpatient holding area situated within the Emergency Department, catering to various adult medical and surgical conditions.

Orientation and Equipment

• 12 hours of unit orientation will be provided.
• Standard equipment includes cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and other monitoring systems.

All candidates must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty. This position has high acuity patients with a high turnover rate, requiring thorough interviews for all candidates.
