Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – NICU
Job Description
We are currently seeking a skilled Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with experience in both adult critical care and NICU settings. The successful candidate will fulfill a crucial role in providing respiratory care to patients, utilizing a range of specialized equipment and techniques.
Shift Information
- Shift: Night 3×12-Hour (18:30 – 07:00)
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, weekends required every other week; holiday coverage expected.
- No on-call requirement.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize airway management devices and suctioning techniques, including:
- Endotracheal tube placement and suctioning
- Extubation and nasal airway placement
- Oral airway placement and use of oropharyngeal suctioning
- Tracheostomy care and suctioning
- Collection of sputum specimens and interpreting ABG results
- Provide pulmonary hygiene and respiratory treatments using medications such as Albuterol, Atrovent, and Flovent.
- Operate and troubleshoot ventilators, specifically Draeger V500 and Servo U.
- Assist in high-risk deliveries and conduct umbilical blood gas assessments.
- Comfortably draw and analyze arterial blood gases (ABGs).
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in Adult Critical Care and NICU.
- Completion of at least 1 prior travel assignment.
- Current BLS Certification.
- Current CRT Certification.
- Active MD State licensure.
- ED experience is preferred.
- ACLS certification is preferred.
Special Equipment Knowledge
- Familiarity with ventilators, specifically:
- Draeger V500
- Servo U
Skills for Success
- Proficient with medications including Isuprel, Lidocaine, Perforomist, Pulmicort, and Tobramycin.
- Experience with aerosol setups using masks and trach collars.
- Ability to troubleshoot high-pressure alarms and wean patients from mechanical ventilation.
- Capable of conducting bronchoscopy (preferred) and familiar with advanced medications like Inhaled Flolan and Nitric Oxide (iNO).
- Understanding of bicarbonate and theophylline treatments.
